This book is a compilation of earlier books published in the 20th century by Noguchi: Ryu no maki, Tora no Maki, and Tokuka Tora no Maki Gappon. After the sudden, early death of the head teacher, the majority of the students left and inducted themselves into the Kodokan. This reprint of the book entitled The Shorinji Textbook dates from Taisho 9, a translation of a Chinese text "Ikinkei". Pictures and passages show the conditioning techniques of the monks before the name "Shorinji" was known in Japan. Translator Shohei Yoshida, brother of writer Rohan Koda, found it while traveling in China. Returning home he told his brother Rohan of the book, who requested it.
